The End of YesButNoButYes

New York, NY

It's better to walk off the stage yourself than be escorted off, and that was the mentality as to why we've decided to end YesButNoButYes. On May 31st the site will shut down permanently. (Stories will be preserved, but nothing new will be added) The site's demise is bittersweet for me as it was my first "official" professional writing job, but we've all lost a bit of enthusiasm for writing it. We have some great things planned over the next two weeks, and I suggested you check it out.

I also thought I'd share some of my favorite articles I've written over the past few years.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for new endeavors.

Every Streetlight

New York, NY

Racing a thunderstorm home, I stopped and looked south.  Over the vast expanse of the Great Lawn, and to the wall of buildings lighting the night sky.  Unintentionally, I considered the answer I was looking for.  In this solitude.  In this singular moment.  In this circumstance of fate, I realized the answer wasn't as simple as yes or no.

For months, I've been attempting to measure what this city means to me.  How I define myself in it, and - more to the point - how I'd define myself without it.  What I'd be willing to lose for the city.  I'd seen it on the horizon, this jointly exhaustive dichotomy, and a decision would have to be made soon.

But for tonight, in the silence and comfort of Central Park, I put aside the choice and all that it would mean, and allowed myself to be enveloped in New York City's expansive embrace.
